Travel restrictions are being implemented across the globe, leaving many wondering if they should cancel or rearrange their upcoming plans. We know this is an especially concerning time for travelers and we want to assure our clients that we are taking every action and precaution to preserve travel plans, while also ensuring their safety.

The Atlantivacations Team is closely monitoring local and destination recommendations in order to provide the best plan of action and encourage anyone with travel questions or concerns to reach out to us. Despite growing cases in mainland Portugal, the Azores region and Madeira remain clear of coronavirus. While the situation and risk levels can change daily, normal security precautions are still standing for those visiting the Azores, which is the primary destination for Atlantivacations’ clients.

Dr. Amesh Adalja, an infectious diseases scholar at Johns Hopkins University recently told Forbes magazine,“We have to dispel the notion that coronavirus is a travel-related illness.”
We are sharing some FAQ’s and encourage our clients to contact us with any questions or concerns about upcoming travel.
Q: I have a trip planned for outside of the U.S., should I rearrange my plans?

Travelers with pre-existing conditions and other health concerns, as well as people over the age of 60 should consult their doctor about the risks associated with traveling. Ultimately, travel suppliers and government authorities are in control of flights, cruises, and destination entry. Those who have recently been in an affected area are advised to take quarantine precautions for two weeks after potential exposure.  If there is a serious risk at the time of travel, the supplier will cancel or postpone the flight or itinerary.

If you have a trip planned within the next couple months that you need to postpone due to illness, many airlines are accommodating customers by waiving flight change fees.

Q: Does my travel insurance cover trip cancellation from COVID-19 restrictions?

Not all insurance plans cover cancellation due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Covered reasons for Trip Cancellation or Interruption that could apply are quarantine and if a delay causes you to lose 50% or more of your scheduled trip duration, due to the reasons covered under the Missed Connection Benefit.
For insured travelers who purchased Cancel for Any Reason coverage, cancellations must be made 48 or more hours prior to scheduled departure and payment is limited to 75% of the non-refundable trip cost up to the stated plan maximum limit.

Q: What precautions should I take when traveling?

While hand sanitizer can be helpful in keeping germs at bay, it does not replace the need for thorough washing. Carrying wipes to sanitize your surroundings can be helpful in preventing exposure from infected surfaces. Wash your hands often, keep them away from your face, and stay calm.
