Did you know that you can travel free of charge to any island of the Azores from the islands of São Miguel and Terceira when you get a flight from the Portugal mainland or Madeira?
This service, which is no longer new, is called Inter-Islands connecting flights and provide connection flights to passengers traveling in Azores, to or from Portugal or Madeira.
This benefit was the results from the liberalization of the Azores airspace, since March 2015, that gives to SATA the obligation o provide a inter-islands connection flight service, free of charge to the passenger, on trips in the Autonomous Region of the Azores, with origin or destination in Portugal or Madeira. This means that if the final destination is any other island of the archipelago – Santa Maria, Corvo, Flores, Faial, Pico, Graciosa or São Jorge – you only pay the ticket plane between Portugal and Ponta Delgada / Terceira. The remaining inter-island connecting flight is free of charge.
To get the free plane tickets between any Azorean island you need to access the SATA website (CLICK HERE) or contact SATA’s call center.
To avoid getting a ticket from the Portugal or Madeira at an hour when there are no routing flights, you can contact SATA to request the reservation of connection. After receiving the confirmation of the reservation, it is given 6 hours to prove that there is in the possession of those who requested the connection flight a valid ticket for Ponta Delgada or Terceira.
